I can’t believe someone is this stubborn and self assuring. He literally has a god complex. He thinks everyone is idiot and he’s the only one who doesn’t make mistake. So much pride but it’s actually ignorant and stupidity. He chooses to remember what he said and what other people said. If others say otherwise, he’ll tell the world that this person is making S@#$@#$ up. Seriously, I don’t think he knows what he’s talking about. Just going around and blame people on things. He doesn’t recognize what others have done or what he didn’t do but he only acknowledge what he did and what others didn’t do. He has this god complex going on in his head. No one is able to persuade him. I’m not sure if I should back down at this point or go on with this. He’s at the point of making me really anxious.  His pride for himself is over the roof. I don’t think it’s normal. I don’t think he treats other people the same where he treats me, but it’s horrible. It’s simply not acceptable. I think I just forget about him. This is just a easier way to deal with things. I think I should emerge myself in works. Afterall, I have to finish my work; it has been over due for awhile now. I’ve been really patient (okay maybe not that patient) with him and I don’t want this to go on but I guess we will have to live our separate lives. He think he is so much better than everyone else. So what, you go fuck yourself. You will not hurt me anymore. I am done with you. I don’t think you’ll leave this circle we’re in but no worries, I will. This is not giving up but it’s more like moving forward. I will be more successful than you, in every way. He konws technology so he do stuff to it so others don’t know how to use it. Well, boo hoo, this is the period of my life that I shouldn’t be using internet connection anyways. I explain to him his fault and what he doesn’t remember, but he just denies and say I’m halucinating. Well Mr. your’e the one who’s high as a kite. That’s right. You retard. So generous with friends but not me. You ask me for every penny and you didn’t even make that money. You make a mess of the place and pick on the little things I do. YEah okay, go tell on me. You immature idiot. You think I’m an idiot and don’t finish what I needed to do. Well, fuck, why don’t you do it yourself. In fact, I did just added you on to the phone list. I want you to get phone call every few hours and then you’ll tell me how this feels. Oh that’s right, you won’t go check it out even if someone calls. You fucken moron. I know we never seen each other eye to eye but you’ve cross a line. You think other people did it wrong, why don’t you fucken make it right. You fucken moron. I am going to cry and get over this. This is how I cope. I will not argue with you anymore. This is how it is. I will extend my generosity for a month while our mediators are here. But not beyond that. I am through with you. I am as good as I can be.

Here we go:

A Gifted Man – Main character is an arrogant ass. Good looking but just too much an ass-hole. I’m dealing with tons of ass at school/work, don’t need more on my TV.  This is not like House where it’s a hospital dark comedy. It’s a drama and the character is just not likable. Although I’m not a doctor, this show are pretty cheezy with the medicine aspect of the show. I watched 2 episodes and I don’t think I’ll watch it any more.

How to be a Gentleman – I think the script is bad. I’m also not a big fan of laugh tracks; I’m not laughing when everyone is laughing. The story starts with a well dressed journalist being forced to write about something he doesn’t agree in – what man in mid-30s do. I generally don’t agree with the concept – I personally like a well dressed man and may/may not look like a captain. One of the two main guys is Jonny from Entourage. I liked him in Entourage but he’s just not that funny here. I watched 1 episode and won’t be going back to this one.

The Lying Game  & Ringer – Okay now, what’s with the sudden interest with twins and interchangeable characters? I liked The Lying Game when it first aired. It has great energy, characters, and plot. Followed it for a few episodes. Got one of my fav actor in there - Adrian Pasdar. Ringer has similar story as the Lying Game but it’s much darker.  I think both shows are okay. I am not watching them on a weekly basis abut I’ll watch few episode here and there. They got plots so it’ll be interesting to see if it gets pick up for future seasons.

Prime Suspect – I’ve read somewhere that this is a US version of the UK series, and that UK series is just outstanding. I have never seen the UK version so I can’t comment on it that but I’ll discuses the US version here with you. I’m not very attach to the main character. She’s pretty but I think they just dress her with a man, with hats and all. I don’t believe that’s how female cop dress. The show got some funny bits in it. I think these kind of procedural shows should have more funny bits inside to lighten up the plot. The story touches on some issues that really make you think (If you have a kid and you’re dating a pedifile, but you don’t know about this. Is it right for an officer to inform you about this situation when that newly released pedifile is trying to start fresh). It’s tough to answer this questions. Although interesting messages through out the plot, this is just another procedural show. I may follow it and watch it every other week.

H8R - Pretty good for these kind of show. Trashy, time waster. I would watch it.

Few thoughts:

• Instead of self rising flour, use all purpose and add 1 tsp of baking powder and 0.25 tsp of salt
• Jamie says 1 cup of flour to half cup of water on the video, but should follow the receipt on the book. It is more like 1.5 cup of flour to half cup of water to get the right consistency.
• Don’t put too much sauce, b/c you don’t want it to  be too runny
• Although the picture shows that pizza is cover by cheese, I should have added more
• Put more salami than needed, literally cover the whole pizza with them would be great
• Wait a little, let it cool before eating, or else the sauce will be runny
• Oh, and grill = broil
• Don’t!!!! touch the handle after you remove the pan from the oven, it’s hot
• No I’m not  a pig but this is more like for 1 person (1o inch pan). Might as well make a few more, in different flavour, in one go if you have 4 people at dinner

No, this took me more like 20 min, but just like Jamie said, you only need 4-5 min on grill (high setting) in the oven. Taste okay, better than those frozen pizzas; I still like delivery better. Haha, Sorry Jamie.

Update:

Since there are lots of sauce left, I’ve decided to make another one for dinner. I was running out of salami, so this is a half salami, half grilled chicken pizza. Tasty

Firstly, I need to have all the required kitchen equipments. I have most of the equipments already besides a few items: the food processor, a muffin try, and a garlic presser. I read many reviews online saying you must have a food processor in order to shorten all the cutting time. Fine, I’ll go get one. Jamie mentioned that one’ll need garlic presser to really save time. Fine, it’ll be on my list too. Of course, to make items such as Portuguese Tarts and Yorkshire Pudding, a muffin try is needed. Alright, I’ll  go shopping.

There are many food processors in the market to choose from; 7 cups, 12 cups, mini etc. There are also many brands out there as well. Oh where do I begin….

I asked the store keeper to recommend a food processor and the first thing he asked me was “do you want a good food processor or do you just want to get by?”.  I told him I would like to get a good one and he recommended 2 machines: 12 cup volume Cuisinart and 12 cup volume KitchenAid food processors (shown in the left of the first picture). He then explained to me that, in terms of value, the $150 KitchenAid would be the better choice over the $99 Cuisinart machine, as the Kitchenaid one had its original price at $329 and Cuisine art’s original price was at $150. However, he said, Cuisinart is the company that invented the food processor and they have stronger blade and 10 years warranty,  so Cuisinart machine may be  a better choice. He told me these two machines literally have the same functionality (but why are they so different in price, I wonder). Well, consider they function the same, I decided to go with the cheaper one. I got the Cuisinart Machine. As well, I got few more items in the shopping trip. Can’t wait to use them.

Besides getting all the equipment ready, I also set up a prep procedures so I know exactly what to do in that 30 Min testing period. This realization came after I tried one receipt. I found that it will only go smoothly and under 30 min if I studied the receipt and know exactly what to do. There’s no time to think; you have to know exactly  of your procedures, where you put everything and have all your ingredients ready.  The sequences of managing different dishes have to be fluid as well.

I recently saw Jamie’s 30 Min meal on food network and went on youtube and found all the episodes. I think reviewing how he managed his dishes helped visualized what to do. Playing the video while making the meal also help in keeping track of  time and a great reminder of the procedures. This is where my Asus Transformer came in really handy. ( I am not going to include links of the videos here in case of any infringement issue, but I can tell you that simply search “Jamie’s  30 min meal” would give you these video on youtube).

To be familiar with the receipt, it is important to have done the dishes before. I think it is crucial to put the clock on not during the first try, but maybe the second time trying the receipt. The first time should act as an review on the procedure and indicator of what is difficult and what can go wrong. The good and bad should be recorded in the book to act as reminder of what was done right and wrong; just like what I did in the picture below.

To sum it up, here are the prep proceudres:

1. Read the receipt in the book, know the general procedures.
2. Watch video and observe steps and note down Jamie’s tips.
3. Do a trial run with the receipt and video, time myself.
4. Note down the good/bad on the book after trying the receipt for the first time.
5. Prior to the actual time trial, prepare and take out all the ingredients on the work station.
6. Have the video ready.
7. Set the clock and ready to cook!!!

I think 30 Min is doable if the steps were followed. Can’t wait to do my first time trial.

I want to note that I won’t be making the exact same amount of food as Jamie. I really can’t finish that much food and don’t want to have the same food for the whole week. I don’t think this will influence the time that much.

I tried my first receipt today: Pari Pari chicken. Here are some thoughts:

• Lemon juice made the potatoes taste fantastic, it’s a must have
• Puff pastry sheet has to be left in room temp prior to using or else it’ll crumble while unfolding
• Shouldn’t add too much water to the pari pari sauce and only cover half of the chicken with the sauce
• I’m not really tasting the lemon and orange zest, weird
• Caramel takes awhile to make
• OMG orange juice caramel is delicious

It was my birthday few months ago and I got an Asus Transformer Pad as a birthday present for myself.

It was quite a debate between an Ipad2 or this little machine. My parents have an Ipad2 and they loved it. I used it a few times and found the major issue with the Ipad is that there’s no Flash. Another down side with tablets, in general, is the lack of productivity on them. What I mean is, without a keyboard and an identical software with familiar user interface, it is hard to get real work (ie, word, powerpoint) done when using a tablet.

My family members are avid users of Android smart phones: Motorola Flipout, Samsung Galaxy, Sony X10, Nexus etc. So I’m familiar with Android operating system. We also LOVE the Google apps: google voice, talk, gmail client, map, earth, goggles etc. So there is a huge incentive to use android system just because of the familiarity I already have with the platform. 

Well, I see benefits with using both OS but when it really come down to the decision time, I choose an Android tablet because of the following:

• Flash compatible
• Ability for customization
• Google apps
• Simply just something different

After deciding on the OS, it was time to decide on the machine.

I had a few options: Samsung Galaxy 7 and 10 inch, Motorolla Xoom, HTC flyer or Asus transformer.

I was really drawn on Xoom but after reading some bad reviews, I decided not to go with it. Galaxy 7 uses different version of android OS (not Honeycomb) so why use an old OS when there is the new OS, we should be evolving. The 10 inch version wasn’t going to be out for a few weeks and I didn’t want to wait…so no Samsung for now. Looking at the HTC flyer, besides on the bad review it got (with regards to  the lack of compatible software with the magic pen), I still think it has a great concept and is  really different from rest of the tablet. However, HTC flyer also uses the old OS and it is super duper expansive, so No, next one please.

It wasn’t hard to decide on the Asus transformer. Esp knowing that I can buy a keyboard and it allows external storage and USB drive connection; these are features not available from any other tablet in the market.

Now, I have been using Asus Transformer for awhile now and here are some thoughts on the machine and the honeycomb OS.

First thing I did was youtube “how to make cream puff” and decided to follow the first video that came up with the search. Below is the receipt.

• 0.5 cup Milk
• 0.5 cup Water
• 80g Unsalted Butter
• 1 cup All-purpose Flour
• 1 tsp Sugar
• 0.25 tsp Salt
• 4 Eggs

I’ll post the video at the end but here is the general process.

Bring Milk, Water, Butter, Sugar, Salt mixture to boil. Let it bubble and rise and add in the flour. Mix until all the flour has been incorporated in to the dough. Let it cool (comfortable when touching) and mix in eggs one-by-one.  It is important to let it cool, else the egg would cook and not mix well.

Use wooden spoon to mix and also use it to scoop dough on the parchment paper and tray. I found this combination can usually make 10 huge cream puffs. Wet fingers with water and smooth all pointy edges on the dough prior to putting the tray in to the oven. 450 degree F for 17 min and then 375 degree F for 13 min; 30 min baking time in total.

This had been modified to my liking. The longer high temperature zone can ensure the puff to rise, so it won’t taste doughy. I guess the other option is to make each cream puff smaller as well. The puff rises due to the heat and evaporation of water in the dough, so don’t open the oven to check progress, just look through the oven window. At 375 degree F, this will cook the inside and make it dry. I did find that smaller puff is less doughy; I guess instead of 10 puffs, I’ll aim to make 13 so they are smaller. At the end of 30 Min, the surface of the cream puffs have a smooth and even brown colouration – Oh they look beautiful.

For the filling, here’s the receipt for filling 10 huge cream puffs. Oh this filling has a fancy name, it’s called Creme Chantilly.

• 450 ml 35% Whipped Cream
• 4 tbsp Powder Sugar
• 2 tbsp Brandy
• 1.5 tbsp Vanilla extract

Toss them all in the chilled mixing bowl and mix on high speed until it reaches stiff peak (oh baking lingo – this means when you lift the mixing thing, nothing falls, I guess this is what it means). I personally like it a bit over mix, almost butter like.

When ready, put them into a zip-lock bag (the one for sandwich and has easy seal at top would do) and cut the tip. Don’t cut too wide tho. Use a knife and insert a hole at the bottom of the cooled cream puff shell; move around the inside so you remove the membrane and these fillings can go through. Well, Start filling away. You can feel it when it gets totally filled with whipped cream – oh my apology, I meant to say Creme Chantilly.

Here’s the flow chart and time requirement for each step:

Dough: Prior to adding egg –> 10 min. Pre-heat oven. Mix in egg and place mixed dough on tray –> 15-20 min.

Baking: 450 degree F for 17, 375 degree F for 13. Total 30 min.

Chill: Leave the cream puff shell to cool for roughly 4-6 hours. Also put mixing bowl and mixing thingy in the fridge to cool.

Whipped cream: Actual Whipping time –> 5 min. Filling time –> 10-15 min.

Total “actual” working time: 50 Min.

I’m not sure if these should be put in the fridge at this point but I do it anyways. I personally found those lidded pyrex containers to be most suitable for the job. I tried to put powder sugar on them before going into the fridge, but it always melt in the fridge when I remove them from the container the next day. Haven’t been able to solve this problem yet. Damn, why can’t they stay pretty.

When transport, after arrival, chill a bit before eating. That’s all; Happy baking. Here’s a photo of my cream puffs. Looks great eh (yes I am Canadian and I speak like one).

I found this girl while procrastinating from thesis writing a month ago. This clip totally blew me away. This girl has such a presentation. If I am a talent scout, I would sign her right away and produce an album, regardless of if she wins this x-factor competition – which is what happened.

Simply put, this girl  already possess the “star” quality. She’s confident on stage. She;s got the voice. She’s pretty – so boys would like her. She’s got attitude – so girls would love her. What else can you ask for!!

In X factor, she gave a fantastic performance during audition, but I found that none of her performances afterword can compare to her first one. Her final performance with Will I Am was simply horrible, mainly b/c of Will I Am. Through out the competition, she got very bad song selections. Why didn’t she pick some Lily Alen or Jessie J songs to cover; she would totally rock these songs. Seriously, song choice is so critical in these competitions.

She didn’t win the competition but still got signed and released a single, which is on top of the UK chart. Good song I may say, very catchy.

I found this band from Toronto and they’re pretty cool. They are called Trading Hearts.

Now almost 2 years later, I’m 2 chapters away from finishing the first draft of my thesis, I’m ready to get back to blogging!!!

Well, before I go any further, I want to update you with my life (You know, just to put every thing on the record) and also discuses the future of this blog.

1. I started living by myself and I started cooking. At the beginning, I was only able to cook water and boiled egg. My mom then gifted me  a cookbook and it had helped me so much. It was Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution. Jamie asked the readers to take an oath, at the beginning of the book, to try to make one dish from each section and pass on the receipt. I took this oath seriously and started my pursue in the culinary world. Let me tell you, it has been really fun and rewarding. I convinced all my friends to get it and also gifted many Jamie’s book as birthday gift to those friends who never cooked and wanted to learn/start cooking. I’ve heard back from many of them and they were all very happy with how easy cooking can be and how great those food turned out.
2. I was sent to Sudbury, Ontario for 4 months for collecting data for my Master’s project. For all of you who don’t know where Sudbury is, it is a city 400km North of Toronto Canada. I was new in town and didn’t know anyone there. People are nice but most people at work are either married and have kids or have a partner already; it is hard to find someone to chill after work or during the weekend. Figured this would be a lonely trip, I’ve decided to do stuff that doesn’t require a partner. I brought my guitar with me (which treated me well the last time I was there, you can check out youtube for some of the cover songs I did). Also, I brought my golf club. The place I lived in is literally next to a championship course with a full 18 and nice short game/putting/driving areas. So I started playing golf. Who would have guessed – go to Sudbury and pick up golfing..haha
3. Jamie’s cook book is fantastic but all receipts are designed to serve 4-6 people. As I cook mostly just for myself, I often have tons of left over and I try to finish them as quickly as possible so I won’t have the same thing 4 meals in a roll. Well, this had resulted in gaining tons of weight. I then decided to start doing exercise on a regular basis. As I am lazy as most of the fat people (no insult intended, I am one of the fat people), motivation of going to the gym is lacking; that’s right, I say to myself “oh I’m so busy today, I’ll make up for it tomorrow—-not!!”. I then decided to get a personal trainer to whip me into shape in January of 2011. She had helped me tremendously; I have gained muscle and shed weight. Most importantly, I have picked up a great hobby - exercising.

Okay, so above is a highlight of what happened in the past 2 years during my MIA. Now you’re updated, I want to share with you the new directions I have for this blog.

• I am still obsessed with TV shows and Movies, so I’ll keep going on with those, or start (in this case).
• I haven’t bought a pair of jeans for quite a long time. Not that I am no longer obsess with this, it is just that I got too many pairs in the past and don’t need any new jeans. Also, I’m a typical poor graduate student,  buying crazy expansive jeans is not my objective anymore. I will still cover them, but not as much in the future.
• As mentioned in my highlight, I’ve gained some new hobbies. In which, cooking is a new found love. I’ve started baking cake and pastry. Let me tell you, they all turned out great, haha, I may have a future in this business (j/k). I’m quite a beginner. I’ll start posting some of the stuff I make and show you my progress.
• Jamie’s Food Revolution is such a fantastic book, so I’ve also purchased his new book – Meals in Minutes. The book was published as “Meals in 30 Minutes” in UK, but most people claimed that unless you’re Jamie, you can’t cook them in 30 Mins. Well, guess what, when my thesis is done, I’ll dedicate a portion of my free time to test out each and every one of his receipt on the book. Okay, they may go over 30 mins, but I want to record down how long did they take exactly so Jamie changed the title of the book. Also, to test out if these receipt can result in great food under such a short period of time. Wish me luck!!!
• I’ve started exercising regularly. I’ve started a new routine of running around the neighbourhood. I want to share some of the thoughts I’ve had in improving health and what gadgets I’ve been using to help me reach my goals. This will be exciting.
• I have started playing golf and I will be reporting the progress of my golf game up here.
• Lastly, b/c I am such a golf fan, I am actually playing golf on a regular basis. One thing that really stops me from playing more often is 1) I get tired because I’m not that fit, 2) I walk and carry my bags every time. I see that some people have this great little thing that can carry their clubs for them; I really want one of those. These machines are called the Moto Caddy. A typical push cart would cost around $200, but if it comes with a motor, these motorized electronic push cart would cost over $800 and typically in the range of $1200. We are looking at 6x mark up. Well, when you get a graduate student (who don’t have lots of money) and an engineering student (who thinks she is pretty good at tech and can do almost anything), DIY project is just inevitable. That’s right!! I want to build one this moto caddy as my winter project. I’ll update my progress here.

Alright, update ends here. I appreciate feedback/comments/advice when I start posting these new topics. These topics are all pretty new to me, so any help will be appreciated.

I know what your first question would be, what’s a pop-up store? Let me tell you, this actually took me awhile to figure out. So basically, the store is not permanent; in this case, the store will be in Toronto for 6 weeks.

They have located the store in the Distillery Area. I know what you’re going to ask again, where in Distillery? that place is so f*cken huge.  I know, the Foster Brothers did not really specify it on their site/blog/twitter. It is the first store on the right side of the entrance. It has Chip & Pepper flag (rainbow colour) and with a  dog on it.

Let me tell you guys about my visit to the store.

As I was studying for my exam, I did everything I could to distract myself to not study. Hence, I was searching on online stores for stuff to buy. I suddenly remembered the Chip & Pepper jean that I’ve always wanted to try on, so I visited their site. Coincidentally, either Chip or Pepper updated their twitter few hours before I visited the site and the post says there would be a store in Toronto, which opens on Friday.

Ah-ha, I was so glad I stumbled across this twit. I then arranged my schedule for the next few days and was ready to visit the store on Friday. That said, I had no idea the hours of operation, the exact location of  the store or any idea on what a pop-up store is. Even so, I was not discouraged with this, I headed off to the Distillery on Friday to find the pair of jeans that I always wanted.

I took the King St street car going east bound until I hit Parliament, then head south for 2 blocks till Mill St.

I could not find the store for 1.5 hours. I walked into all the stores at the hope that there would be a booth there selling C&P jeans (refer back to “I don’t know what a pop-up store is”, I figured it might be a booth). Silly me. I then got tired from walking and had a cup of coffee. I decided to head back home and long and behold, on the way out, I saw the sign says Chip and Pepper.

Perfect,  I’ve finally found the store. It was around 4 o’clock pm. The store is really well set up, got a really relaxed minimalistic boutique vibe going on. All products are laid out pretty spaciously. They have their jeans in the back side of the store and hoodies and T-shirt at the front of the store. Seems like they only have jeans, hoodies, and T-shits; not a large selection to go on.

I then rushed to the back of the store to give those jeans a try. First, I was not impress with the feel of the denim. Second, they’re selling Nikki for CAD $182.

Now hold on a second, this is pretty expansive for jeans that is not giving me any textile sensation. My interest for these jeans have diminished greatly. One of the reason which I really want to visit the store is because I saw the facebook page for their Winnipeg pop-up store, which mentioned that they’re selling those jean @ $99 . To be honest, I don’t know if I’m ready to spend over 200 on a pair of jean that I’m not happy about its feel.

I still wanted to try these jeans, just to make sure I’m 100% certain that these do not fit for me. I went to the front of the store and asked for assistance as all the jeans are rolled up and I can’t see the sizes. The store manager told me they’re not opened yet, the grand opening happens at 6pm, and that’s why they’re not helping me. Okay then. One thing I know is that I wasn’t going to stay in Distillery till 6 to try on a pair of jean. So I left.

Bottom line, the store is pretty well set up with great lighting. Not a huge selection going on but there are few different sytles and washes of jeans from both their male and female lines.  Should definately visit if you want to try out the infemous C&P jeans. They’re selling their jeans at regular retail price and they say they won’t be lowering their prices for Christmas.  Well, if you happen to be around the area, should check out the store and see for yourselve, if they have the fit for you.

On the side note, I’m actually impressed to see the Foster Brothers carry out this operation. Settting up a store in Distillery without really any promotion on the store nor on their products. This is a fairly new market for them (haven’t seen much C&P jeans in Toronto) and consumers don’t know about the product. Their fitting rooms are not really secure/enclosed, I can see everything going on behind the curtain. Also, with the same price, would I buy a C&P jean instead of my other favorite brands? Um…….
